Visiting New Zealand’s stunning Kāpiti Coast? Relax and nourish your creativity with an Otaihanga Art and Nature Experience.

Otaihanga Art and Nature Experiences

My Art and Nature Experiences are the perfect opportunity to relax, unwind and nourish your creativity. No need to be an artist or have any experience holding a paintbrush! This is purely for fun! It’s an opportunity to explore the beauty of Otaihanga, gather inspiration from flowers, trees, the river and the ocean air – and explore creative expression by painting an abstract painting in my art studio.

What your experience includes

I’ll be sharing with you my approach to making abstract art, inspired by nature. Your two-hour experience includes:

  • a 30-minute creative tutorial with me, demonstrating what materials you’ll be able to use to make your painting, and what mark-making approaches you might like to explore
  • a 30-minute walking tour, taking in the beauty of the Otaihanga river and surrounds. You have the opportunity to take photos or do sketches of anything you find that inspires you, and which you may like to use as reference for your artwork
  • morning or afternoon tea (supplied)
  • an hour to relax in the studio and grounds to paint,  experiment and work on your art piece.

Creative supplies

Basic paints and brushes are supplied, as well as an art pack including two small canvases. A range of additional canvases, papers and supplies are also available for purchase.

About my Art Studio

My art studio is just across from the Otaihanga Domain – a wonderful local recreation ground. The Waikanae River weaves through it, and there are gentle walking tracks on either side of the river. Just beyond the river is the ocean. My studio is located next to my house, on a half-acreage that is beautifully quiet and serene. As well as the studio itself, there are a number of areas in the garden perfect for painting and creative activities.

About me

I love helping people to access and explore their own creativity. It’s a wonderful way for people to feel well, connected to their life purpose and reflect on their inner and outer journey. I’m also passionate about mindfulness, about connecting with nature and living simply. Come and experience my beautiful corner of the Kāpiti Coast, and explore how art and nature combined can offer such a wonderful, restorative and fun experience.

Exploring Otaihanga

Some of the stunning natural attractions within a 5-20 minute walking range of the studio include:

  • The Waikanae river and walking trails: bask in the sheltered beauty of the river. Swim, paddle, cycle, wade, picnic – there’s no limit to the fun that can be had along the river. From the studio, it’s about a 1 hour walk to Waikanae cafes and shops – a great destination for refreshments!
  • The Waikanae Estuary Scientific Reserve – wonderful for walking the boardwalks, smelling the ocean air, enjoyed by runners and dogs walking their owners!
  • Waimanu Lagoon: great for walks, watching the birdlife and enjoying the gardens surrounding the lagoons – many of which are beautifully maintained by their owners and are the pride of the region.
  • Waikanae Beach – great for walking, swimming, and taking in the views of Kāpiti Island.
  • Otaihanga Domain – great for picnics, relaxing under shady trees and padding in the river.
